Reviewing Our Preliminary Tasks

Today, in Media class, we were visited by a man from the film industry - having worked on films such as 'Star Wars: Phantom Menace' and 'Tomb Raider'. During his visit, he helped do further analysis of our preliminary tasks.

Due to our film shorts being in alphabetical order, my one was evaluated first. His overall comments on my film short were:

In my clip, there were areas above the actress's head that didn't need to be there. This is called the 'head line'. Also when the actress sat down, the camera should have followed her for a better effect and I did not do that. Another point was that I should focus on the actor/actresses eye line so that it actually looks like they are looking at each other instead of facing each other at angles which made the clip look jumpy. Also the frame must be the same size. This means that the frames need to be the same size otherwise it is out of proportion and will look off.

He then helped us to film a short with the improved techniques he had taught us. Here are the pictures in a small video clip below:

Preliminary Task || Finished

Last week I posted my script and storyboard for my Media AS Preliminary Task and now I've finished it! I'm actually quite proud of myself because I've got an awful cold - which is rather annoying - and although I'm ill I still managed to complete this all.

Having been off ill yesterday, I completed all the editing and filming today in my Media Studies class - I even put some music in the background!

Our task was to film someone walking through a door, sitting down opposite someone else and exchanging a few lines of dialogue.

Even though I'm proud of this, my preliminary task is not without flaws. Whilst editing, I couldn't help but realise at one point there are a collections of bags, books and a laptop behind one the characters and then they all disappear in one go. This is an issue but overall I think I handled the '180 degree rule', 'match on action' and 'shot reverse shot' well
(fingers crossed).

I had considered editing my script for this short film but I decided on the day that my overall script worked better without the edited lines.

Storyboard and Script for Preliminary Task (Media Studies AS)

At the beginning of our Media Studies Course we have been given a preliminary task that must involve three different techniques: match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.

Last lesson we drafted a script and a storyboard for this preliminary task (my storyboard can be seen above). The script script is below this. I was inspired to create a horror, dystopian themed short clip due to my love of dystopian and futuristic themed novels and movies. The script is formed around two people: a highly ranked citizen of a dystopian society (person 1) and a rebel (person 2) who seeks justice for what the dystopian government have done to the world by poisoning person 1 and watching them die, hiding in the shadows.

The script:

Person 1: You've come to kill me, haven't you?

Person 2: I already have

Person 1: Is it pointless to say sorry?

Person 2: Never
